How and when to apply for accommodation

Received an offer to study at the University of Hull? Congratulations! We can't wait to welcome you into your new home here.

Our accommodation guarantee

If you’re a new, full-time, unaccompanied student, and you apply for accommodation by 1 September, we guarantee you a room in accommodation that's owned, in partnership, managed or directed by the University.

Our accommodation is for undergraduate and postgraduate students. If we receive more applications from full-time postgraduates than we can accommodate, we will help you to find accommodation in the private sector.

Undergraduate (new students)

New students

If you have selected Hull as your firm choice with UCAS you will receive an email confirming when the accommodation application process opens. The email will be sent to your personal address as registered with UCAS and will advise you how to access our online service to apply for accommodation.

  1. Please follow the instructions provided in the email to set up your account
  2. Once you have accepted your offer you will be able to sign into our accommodation portal and follow the instructions to book your accommodation
  3. Once you have chosen your accommodation you will be asked to accept a residence contract and pay the £250 required deposit to confirm your reservation.  The deposit payment will be transferred to your residence account and held as a damage deposit until the end of your residence contract.

Insurance applicants

If you have selected Hull as your insurance choice with UCAS, you will be given the opportunity when the Accommodation processes opens in March, to register an expression of interest for accommodation. (Please note registering an interest for accommodation does not guarantee you a particular type of accommodation). Once you have accepted Hull as your firm choice, (typically on ‘A’ levels results day) you will  be sent a further email inviting you to access the accommodation portal to book your accommodation, accept your residence contract and pay a £250 deposit. The deposit payment will be transferred to your residence account and held as a damage deposit until the end of your residence contract. All email correspondence will be sent to your personal address as registered with UCAS.

Clearing Process

If you have selected Hull through the Clearing process, you will be able to apply for accommodation (typically within 2 hours) of your University offer having been confirmed and accepted. An email will be sent to your personal address as registered with UCAS and will advise how to access our online service to apply for accommodation. Applications received by 1st September 2018 are guaranteed a place in University owned, partnership, managed or directed accommodation. During this process you will be required to accept a residence contract and pay £250 deposit to confirm your booking. The deposit payment will be transferred to your residence account and held as a damage deposit until the end of your residence contract.

Key information

Semester dates

For 'standard' semesters, teaching begins on 25 September 2017.

Contact your department directly for specific dates and non-standard semester dates (e.g. Hull York Medical School and School of Health and Social Work).

Money

Accommodation fees are paid in instalments in October, January and April, and coincide with student loan payments.

We take care of the fiddly bits, so you can concentrate on the important stuff – settling in and getting to lectures. Insurance, internet and utility bills are included in your rent with most properties, so there’s less for you to sort out. It makes budgeting easier, too.

We also offer a range of scholarships and bursaries to help with living costs.

Documents, forms and policies

From insurance certificates, to information about WiFi - here's everything you need to know.

Tips for applying ...

When applying for your accommodation you will see the contract length which typically suits your academic course requirements.  All you have to do is choose which type of accommodation you would prefer to live in.

  • Students who study drama or music often work irregular hours, including evenings – self-catered, on campus accommodation may be preferred
  • Hull/York Medical School students may be required to attend phases of tuition/observation work in the evening.  On campus self-catered accommodation may be more suitable
  • Nursing students need longer contracts and are often best suited to a self-catered environment
