Youth Work and Community Development is part of the School of Education and Social Sciences, which sits within the Faculty of Arts, Cultures and Education.

COURSES

Social Work

Hull ranks among Britain's top providers of social work education. Students develop a solid grounding in social work skills, knowledge and values under our expert staff, and benefit from our close ties with local service users, carers and agencies.

Youth Work and Community Development

Youth Work and Community Development students acquire the understanding, skills and knowledge to make a real difference to the lives of young people and communities locally, nationally and internationally.

Foundation year

Gives you the skills and knowledge for entry on to a degree if you don’t quite meet the academic entry requirements.

Study abroad

We have partnerships with universities across the globe. Depending on your course, you can study for one trimester, or a full year, in another country.

Industrial placement

Work in industry as part of your degree. Depending on your course, you can spend part of your degree on placement. See your course page for specific details.

Integrated Masters

Some courses combine undergraduate and postgraduate study. The integrated Masters year is an extra year after your standard degree.

Graduates of the BA in Social Work programme are eligible to apply to register as qualified social workers with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Placements

Our strong links with employers in the region mean that we can offer you a diverse choice of professional practice placements, including drug and alcohol projects, sexual health education, homelessness projects, school inclusion, and projects to tackle child sexual exploitation.

Career-enhancing accreditations

We offer accreditations from both the National Youth Agency with Joint Negotiating Committee (JNC) recognition and the Endorsement and Quality Standards Board for Community Development Learning.

CAREERS

Social work graduates are employed as social workers, community workers, welfare rights advisers, housing officers, youth justice officers and drugs specialists.

Youth work and community development graduates pursue careers as youth justice officers, work with drug and alcohol projects, as community advocates and with homelessness projects.

FACILITIES

Whatever you're studying, the library is one of the best places in the country to get your work done. With over a million books, and state-of-the-art technology throughout, there's a good reason that this is one of the most visited places on campus.

Study abroad

Some of our social work students enjoy overseas placements in a variety of countries around the world including France, Sweden and Germany. Students can take part in our International Social Work Student Conference - an excellent opportunity to compare notes with their counterparts from all over Europe.

Our youth work and community development students can also apply to conduct an international professional placement in their second year.
