Physics and Astrophysics Physics and astrophysics at Hull is part of the School of Mathematics and Physical Sciences and sits within the Faculty of Science and Engineering. COURSES Our degree courses encourage you to explore the world from the sub-atomic scale to the cosmological scale under the guidance of internationally recognised experts. The early part of your degree will give you grounding in core subjects such as quantum physics, relativity, particle and nuclear physics, solid state physics, light, fields and matter. Later, you'll cover specialist topics including galaxy formation, nanophysics, superconductivity and general relativity. Foundation year Gives you the skills and knowledge for entry on to a degree if you don’t quite meet the academic entry requirements. Study abroad We have partnerships with universities across the globe. Depending on your course, you can study for one trimester, or a full year, in another country. Industrial placement Work in industry as part of your degree. Depending on your course, you can spend part of your degree on placement. See your course page for specific details. Integrated Masters Some courses combine undergraduate and postgraduate study. The integrated Masters year is an extra year after your standard degree. Undergraduate BSc (Hons) / MPhys Physics with Astrophysics Available in Clearing Available with: Learn to understand the underlying laws that govern the universe, from a sub-atomic to a cosmological scale. BSc (Hons) / MPhys Physics Available in Clearing Available with: Explore the world at sub-atomic or cosmological level with our BSc Physics degree. Apply to gain a deeper knowledge of physics and discover new concepts. MPhys Physics (with Teacher Training) Available in Clearing An undergraduate Masters in Physics which also leads to Qualified Teacher Status. BSc (Hons) / MPhys Theoretical Physics Available in Clearing Available with: As a theoretical physicist, your mathematical skills will be enhanced to a high level – giving you an in-depth knowledge of the subject matter. Postgraduate Taught We're still accepting applications for September 2018 entry – see course pages for more details. MSc in Public Engagement and Science Communication A challenging, creative course that shapes science graduates into engaging communicators of ideas. Postgraduate Research Physics and Astrophysics research degrees Work with us for a PhD or MSc by Research. "We got to go to CERN, we got to look around it ... it was just a fantastic experience." Leah CoxBSc Physics with Astrophysics WHY STUDY AT HULL? There are a galaxy of reasons to study physics and astrophysics at Hull. There are excellent employment prospects after you graduate and opportunities to get involved in research that tackles unanswered questions. All of our courses are accredited by the Institute of Physics. Our undergraduates conduct real investigative research, with some of them publishing research papers before they've even graduated. You'll have access to Viper - one of the most powerful supercomputers in the country - giving you the opportunity to address current and cutting-edge research problems. This is a friendly, supportive subject area. Our tutorial system and regular individual feedback ensures that you'll get the help you need throughout your studies. CAREERS We have one of the country's best records for graduate employability. A physics degree equips you for a career in many fields, including data scientist, laser systems engineering, telecommunications, IT and computing, medical physics, teaching and lecturing, and nuclear engineer. * UK domicile full-time first degree leavers; Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education survey, for the academic year 2016/17 published by the Higher Education Statistics Agency 2018 95.9%of students are in work or further study six months after graduating* Our research Our staff's research interests range from the very small (quantum theory) to the very large (galaxy evolution). And between those points we carry out specialist work in condensed matter physics, organophotonics, nanophysics and light-matter interactions.
