Physics and Astrophysics

In the 2018 Guardian University Guide, physics and astrophysics at Hull was joint 4th in the country for graduate employability. It is part of the School of Mathematics and Physical Sciences and sits within the Faculty of Science and Engineering.

COURSES

Our degree courses encourage you to explore the world from the sub-atomic scale to the cosmological scale under the guidance of internationally recognised experts. 

The early part of your degree will give you grounding in core subjects such as quantum physics, relativity, particle & nuclear physics, solid state physics, light, fields and matter. Later, you'll cover specialist topics including galaxy formation, nanophysics, superconductivity and general relativity.

Our research

Our staff's research interests range from the very small (quantum theory) to the very large (galaxy evolution). And between those points we carry out specialist work in condensed matter physics, organophotonics, nanophysics and light-matter interactions.
