Summary

Georgios finished his BSc (Hons) in Microbiology (Medical) and his PhD in Molecular Applied Microbiology at the University of Surrey (UK), with two brief breaks in between for completing his professional training year at Janssen Pharmaceutica (Belgium) and an MSc course in Molecular Biology and Pathology of Viruses, at Imperial College London (UK). He started his postdoctoral career with a 14-month research project at the University of Surrey, studying the gene expression regulation of antibiotic production by Streptomyces coelicolor, by use of ChIP-on-chip technology and DNA microarrays. He then moved to Yale School of Medicine (USA) for studying the effect of intestinal microflora on the development of Type 1 diabetes in experimental mice. Finally, he worked for 3 years as a Postdoctoral Associate at National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Greece), studying the gene expression profiles of biofilm-forming bacteria on a variety of food products, by use of DNA microarrays. His research interests are: Natural antimicrobials, Biofilms, Probiotics, Microbial Communities and Food Safety. His specialties include: Molecular Microbiology, Genomics, Gene Expression, Fermentation Technology, Microbial Metabolism. Georgios also worked for 4 years as teaching fellow at Akmi Metropolitan College (Greece) and the University of Strathclyde (UK) and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA).
