Where people want to be
Rough Guides named us as one of the top 10 cities in the world to visit in 2016. And we’re rated among the UK’s best destinations by the Daily Telegraph. Naturally, we agree.
Close to campus, there’s a vibrant University Quarter where the leafy Avenues residential area borders an eclectic selection of bars, coffee shops, eateries and boutiques. Popular with our student community, it’s a quirky, bohemian part of town, full of interesting shops and interesting people.
Away from campus, Hull’s lively city centre is a hotbed of shops, restaurants, cafes, bars, theatres and attractions. St Stephen’s shopping centre is the place to go for your favourite high-street names, with the likes of Superdry, H&M, Zara, River Island, Topshop, Next and New Look. You’ll also find restaurants and cafes, plus a cinema on the second floor.
You can take a stroll along the picturesque marina down to the retro Fruit Market. It’s home to various creative and cultural venues, with art galleries, live music, boutique markets and fine dining. And it’s currently undergoing a major revamp to underline its position as Hull’s art and culture quarter.
Hull is also home to The Deep, one of the world’s most spectacular aquariums. With 3,500 specimens including sharks, rays, turtles and penguins, it tells the story of the world’s oceans through stunning marine life, interactives and audiovisual presentations.
