Dr Malcolm Lillie is currently developing a number of projects involving the stable isotope analysis (δ13C/δ15N) of early farming populations at Aktopraklik in Thrace, which constitutes a contact point between Anatolia and Southeastern Europe, the Areni cave site in Armenia, and more recently the site of Dzhulyanitsa, Bulgaria (Pictured)

In addition, our archaeology students here at Hull have just completed their annual training excavations in the Brodsworth region, near Doncaster, alongside students from Sheffield University. This year's excavations yielded an unexpected discovery in the form of a young adult male (pictured below) buried in a crouched position located in the vicinity of a possible Bronze Age/Iron Age droveway. This individual is currently being analysed by Lauren McIntyre at Sheffield University and samples have been submitted for AMS dating and stable isotope analyses.

We are also in the process of developing links with archaeological colleagues in the Orkney Islands, aimed at developing fieldwork opportunities for student training excavations. If successful, these excavations will offer an opportunity for students to excavate and visit some of the more exceptional prehistoric sites in Britain and experience a taste of island life!

Finally, whilst our researchers here at Hull continue to publish a range of papers in key archaeological and environmental journals e.g. Lillie et al. (2009), Dr Malcolm Lillie is currently researching for a book on the Mesolithic in Wales, entitled Hunters & Gatherers in Wales: a social narrative of Mesolithic lifeways (cover below İMalcolm Lillie)
