The University of Hull

Museums and galleries

The 10th-largest city in England, Hull has plenty of attractions for the culture vulture.

At the heart of the Old Town, the Museums Quarter is one of the most exciting developments of its kind, encompassing the Streetlife Museum of Transport, Wilberforce House, the Hull and East Riding Museum and the Arctic Corsair. For those interested in the city’s seafaring tradition, there is also the fascinating Maritime Museum.

Rotunda MuseumThe award-winning Ferens Art Gallery boasts an internationally renowned permanent collection and runs a successful programme of temporary exhibitions and live art. The University’s own Art Collection, on the Hull campus, specialises in paintings, sculpture, drawings and prints produced in Britain between 1890 and 1940.

In Scarborough, the Rotunda Museum – the first purpose-built museum in the country – specialises in the history of the town, and Wood End Museum displays the wildlife, rocks and fossils of the area. Scarborough Art Gallery features the work of local and national artists.
