City, Coast and Countryside
Region
Hull and Scarborough are both surrounded by beautiful countryside. Hull is in the East Riding of Yorkshire, featuring open plains, rolling hills and wild, rugged coastline. Forty miles further up the coast, Scarborough faces the North Sea, with the dramatic landscapes of the North York Moors at its back.
Hull
Hull is a vibrant riverside city with a strong maritime heritage – it has been a major European port for seven centuries.
Ranked among the top 15 city destinations (above Cambridge, Oxford, Canterbury and London) in the
Guardian/Observer Travel Awards 2003, it's a place that frequently surprises the visitor.
With investment of more than £1 billion, the city is being transformed into a centre of pioneering creativity.
Hull offers a fascinating, dynamic mix of the historic and new, with plenty of culture in the form of shops, restaurants, pubs and attractions. It's unique in that you can wander in the 'Land of Green Ginger' or spend the night dancing in
Heaven and Hell!

Excellent for water sports (including some of the best surfing in the UK), the town is also home to the renowned Stephen Joseph Theatre, which premieres all of Sir Alan Ayckbourn’s plays. Scarborough’s clubs attract great crowds, plus the beach often plays host to a selection of music and dance events.
