About the foundation year
The foundation year is made up of modules designed to provide you with the scientific knowledge and study skills you will need to be successful in your degree studies. It also aims to build your confidence, effectiveness and motivation through the module ‘Preparing for Learning at HE Level' which includes a variety of innovative personal and motivational activities alongside more traditional study skills.

Depending on the degree you choose, the individual modules will either be compulsory or optional. Modules are assessed in a variety of ways such as coursework, practical assignments, field work, group work, and examinations. Don't be put off by the thought of exams as study skills are available to help those who are unfamiliar with exams or who haven't sat an exam for a long time.
