1927: a different kind of prospectus
Choosing what to do next is one of the biggest decisions you’ll make. University might be part of that. It might not. Either way, 1927 is designed to help you think it through – in your own time, and on your own terms.

What is 1927 – and why read it?
1927 is the University of Hull’s undergraduate prospectus, reimagined.
Instead of leading with course lists and sales pitches, it starts with the bigger questions most prospectuses don’t always leave room for: How do you choose the right path after school or college? Is university the right option for you – or would an apprenticeship or work suit you better? And how does university fit into a world shaped by rapid change, new technology and uncertainty?
It’s still a prospectus (you’ll find a full course directory and practical information inside), but it’s also a space for reflection. We don’t presume that Hull is the right choice for everyone. And we don’t even presume that university is the right choice at all.
What we do believe is that confident decisions come from good information, honest perspectives and hearing from people who’ve been there.
What’s inside the magazine?
Alongside essential undergraduate prospectus information, 1927 features long‑form articles, interviews and guides that explore the decisions behind the decision.
Here are just a few of the stories you’ll find inside:

How to choose the right university
Choosing a university isn’t just about rankings or reputation. This feature breaks down how to compare courses, locations and learning styles — and why visiting, asking questions and trusting your instincts all matter. It’s practical, grounded advice designed to help you narrow your options with confidence, whether Hull ends up on your list or not.
Degree or apprenticeship: what are the differences?
University isn’t the only route forward — and this article doesn’t treat it as one. Instead, it offers a clear, balanced look at degrees and apprenticeships: how they work, how they’re funded, how you learn, and where they can lead. If you’re weighing up your options, this piece helps you understand what each path really involves beyond the headlines.
How learning really works at Hull
What does studying at university actually feel like? This article looks beyond lectures and exams to explore real‑world assessments, hands‑on learning and how Hull prepares students for life after graduation. From group projects and live briefs to placements and practical experience, it shows how learning connects to the world beyond the classroom.
Will AI take graduate jobs?
Artificial intelligence is changing the way we live and work — but what does that mean for your future career? This feature explores how AI is reshaping graduate roles, why adaptability matters more than ever, and how universities can help students develop skills that last. It’s thoughtful, realistic and forward‑looking, without the hype.
And much more...
You’ll also find student stories, guides to money and living arrangements, reflections on wellbeing and belonging, a guide to the city of Hull, and a full undergraduate course directory.
A prospectus you can use your own way
You don’t need to read 1927 cover to cover. In fact, most people won’t.
You might start with student stories. Or money. Or careers. You might come back to it after an Open Day, or read it alongside advice from teachers, parents or friends. That’s exactly how it’s meant to work.
This is a prospectus designed to support your thinking — not rush it.
