<h1> University of Hull<br> Staff Tennis Club</h1></center> <center><img SRC="TENNIS1I.JPG" height=160 width=399></center> <h2><b><font face="Arial">News</font></b></h2> <HR> <H3>Latest News: indoor tennis event</H3><BR> Indoor tennis in the sports centre main hall, 4pm to 7pm on Monday 29th January - banish those marking blues!<BR> If you want to find out about the club, meet some members, and even have a game, come along.<BR> For up to date information, check this site, or contact the <a href="#officials">club officials</A>.<BR> Membership details for 2001/2002 will be announced after the February AGM. <HR> <P> The tennis season is over for now - but the Staff Tennis Club will have it's annual general meeting in the February.<p> There are a number of exciting developments - keep checking this site, or contact the club officials. <p> Some members will be playing during the Winter at other courts - again, contact the club if you are interested in playing during this period. <p> <h2>Background</h2> <p><b><font face="Arial">The University Staff Tennis Club is trying to recruit new members</font></b> <p>The University Staff Tennis Club is very eager to enrol new members of all standards! The club has the use of three tennis courts on Inglemire Lane, opposite the Sports Centre. <p>The club has got a long history dating back to 1933, when the Senior Common Room formed the University Staff Tennis Club. In 1941 the club was broken up, but it was re-established in 1946. The club’s two tennis courts used to be where the Physics building stands today. When the land was needed for building purposes, three of the grass courts north of Inglemire Lane were converted into three hard tennis courts for the use of the staff club. These courts were ready in June 1953 and have been played on ever since. <p>The club used to be flourishing, but membership has heavily declined over recent years. That’s why we are currently trying to revive the club. <p>The Manager of the University Sports Centre is also keen to promote tennis across the campus and feels that a strong staff club could enhance this. A number of possible ventures for promoting tennis throughout the University have been discussed with the Hull Tennis Development Officer. These include a Play Tennis Day and Tennis Skills weekends and will be advertised through the Sports Centre. We hope new members and their children might wish to take part in these. <p>The University Staff Tennis Club is open to all staff of the University, academic, administrative, clerical and technical staff as well as research students. Paid-up members are very welcome to enrol their partners and children (junior members) as well.
