JU-JITSU

News and Events.

Background

Ju-Jitsu is a Japanese Martial Art that literally means 'Gentle Way' and is generally known as Japanese self-defence. The emphasis in our club is to teach simple techniques that allow a defendant to escape from an aggressor as easily as possible, with the minimum of effort and within the letter of the law. Ju-Jitsu is not a stylised Martial Art and the atmosphere in training, whilst serious, is also jovial.
We are affiliated to the World Ju-Jitsu Federation. Members of the club join the WJJF and get budo passes and certificates to record their progress.

Training

Lessons are usually twice a week but there is no obligation to turn up to every session. Lessons include mostly locks, throws and holds and some kicking and punching. Training takes place in the sports centre.

New Members Always Welcome

If you want to try it, come along to one of the training sessions - remember to bring some loose fitting clothing! It doesn't matter if it is half way through the year, come along at any time.
Note: Unlike many of the university AU clubs, training usually goes on during vacations for those people still in Hull!

Training Times

Usually, training takes place in the upstairs gym in the Sports Centre.

Day Time
Monday 7.30pm - 9.00pm
Wednesday 7.30pm - 9.00pm
Saturday (Senior grades only) Usually 4pm to 5pm

Training outside vacations varies - check the News section, the club facebook site or the club noticeboard in the Student Union for details.

Training costs

General training costs £2 per session during semesters (a little more for training outside of semesters depending on numbers).
For other initial joining costs come along or email us to find out the details.

Social Events

The club often runs social events - incuding parties and pub-crawls (often combined with raising funds for various charities). These appeal to those members of the club that prefer to spend more time at the bar than in the Dojo!
