Ju-Jitsu is a Japanese Martial Art that literally means 'Gentle Way' and
is generally known as Japanese self-defence. The emphasis in our club is
to teach simple techniques that allow a defendant to escape from an aggressor
as easily as possible, with the minimum of effort and within the letter
of the law. Ju-Jitsu is not a stylised Martial Art and the atmosphere in
training is always jovial.
Training
Lessons are twice a week but there is no obligation to turn up to every
session. Lessons include mostly locks, throws and holds and some kicking
and punching. Training takes place in the sports centre.
Unlike most university clubs, training goes on during vacations.
If you want to try it, come along to one of the training sessions -
remember to bring some loose fitting clothing!
Training Times
Usually, training takes place in the upstairs gym in the Sports Centre.
We try to turn up 5 or 10 minutes early to prepare mats and get warmed
up!

Social Events
The fun really starts after training! Training is usually followed by a
quick drink in the sports centre, and then on to a pub (traditionally Scruffy
Murphys on a Wednesday!). There are lots of social events with the club,
parties and pub-crawls (often combined with raising funds for various charities)
for the members of the club that prefer to spend more time at the bar than
in the Dojo!
