Welcome to the Interdisciplinary Spirituality Group (ISG) Homepage. Founded in 2005 at the University of Hull, UK, we are an interdisciplinary group seeking to explore the study of spirituality. We have a particular interest in the theory and practice of spirituality in health, social work, and education. The group approaches spirituality as something that is enacted through open exchanges between participants in a shared context (e.g. service users and providers, or amongst researchers). It emphasises the openness of discourses about spirituality as a means to understanding the phenomenon. Impediments to open discourse are equally of interest, for example, where expert standards of knowledge and rationality appear to be in conflict with ways of spiritual knowing. The group aims at fostering discourses about spiritual care and spiritual formation amongst researchers and with the community.
The ISG website seeks to provide you with an overview of our activities; publications; and contact details, as well as information relating to spirituality studies; future and past conferences; forthcoming courses, and useful links. The ISG is in the process of establishing a Centre for Spirituality Studies at the University of Hull. Information about its research, teaching, and outreach activities will become available in the coming months. Click on the buttons (above left) to explore our website. Contact details for ISG are provided below, as well as for individual Group members. |
