ENGLISH in AMERICA

AMERICAN WORDS WHICH ENRICHED ENGLISH
(I obviously need to extend this section.
Can you recommend any words here - Thanks)

AMERICAN COMPOUND and REVIVED WORDS: combined two established words:

bulletbrain-wave / bullfrog / catfish / eggplant / grasshopper / highbrow / mockingbird / rattlesnake / wisecrack

AMERICAN REVIVED WORDS: Elizabeth the First period when words were taken over during the early wave of immigration to the New World. The OED (Oxford Eng Dictionary) confirms that the following words (and more) had fallen out of use in Britain at the turn of the 19th.century - thus, they were revived in the USA and given a new lease of life:

bulletassignment (for job/task) / chore / deck of cards (instead of pack) / fall (Autumn in Elizabethan England) / frame-up / homespun / I guess / mad (for angry) / maybe / mayhem / platter (large dish) / ragamuffin / trash (rubbish)
