TALK PLAN:
THE WOMEN of Hull's Fishing Community get overlooked. The image of the men and their Arctic
trawlers is very strong. The PURPOSE of this talk is to put women in the centre and focus
upon their unique lives. With the men away at sea for most of the time, the woman was both
MOTHER and FATHER to the children. The fact that Hessle Road was 'ONE BIG FAMILY' where
"everyone knew everyone else" was largely due to the women and their links
through marriage...
