Professor Ken Hawick is Professor of Computer Science and Director of The Digital Centre at the University of Hull in the United Kingdom. Professor Hawick was Head of the Computer Science Department from 2013 until its merger into the School of Engineering and Computer Science in 2016. He held the Chair of Computer Science at Massey University, Albany, New Zealand from 2003 to 2013, and prior to that was Head of Computer Science at the University of Wales, Bangor and founding Director of the Centre for Advanced Software Technology (CAST) in Wales. Hawick founded and led the Distributed and High-Performance Computing Research Group (DHPC) at the University of Adelaide, Australia from 1996 to 2000 and then at Bangor until 2003. Hawick also ran the Numerical Simulations Group at Edinburgh Parallel Computing Centre (EPCC) until 1992, and worked at the Northeast Parallel Architectures Center (NPAC) in New York from 1992-95, and for the UK Meteorological Office from 1995-96.

Hawick has a PhD in Computational Physics from the University of Edinburgh and is a Senior Member of ACM, a Member of the IEEE, IEEE Computer Society, SIAM, and the IET, and is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics, a Fellow of the British Computer Society, and a Fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society, an Associate Member of the Chartered Management Institute and is a Member of the Royal Society of New Zealand.

Hawick's research interests are in: computational techniques, software tools and methods for simulating, modelling and visualising complex systems and distributed and high performance computing.
