Radiation heat transfer in gas turbine combustors 1999-2001, EPSRC GR/M20051/01 The overall objective of the project was to extend the predictive capabilities of CFD in respect of soot, thermal radiation and wall heat transfer prediction for gas turbine combustors. Specific objectives of the programme were to obtain spatially resolved measurements of soot concentration and radiation properties in a tubular combustor, derived from a practical design, both liquid and gaseous fuelled. Existing predictive capabilities were then evaluated using these measurements employing flamelet based soot models and the computation of radiative exchange by ray tracing with banded properties and discrete transfer.
