
Francis Orpen Morris (1810-1893) was educated at Worcester College, Oxford, where he obtained his BA in 1833. He was ordained deacon in 1834 and in 1844 became vicar of Nafferton near Driffield in East Yorkshire. In 1854 he moved to the rectory of Nunburnholme, near Market Weighton. He had a lifelong interest in natural history and became a writer of textbooks on birds, moths and butterflies which he produced in collaboration with the printer, Benjamin Fawcett. The holdings comprise over 100 letters to Francis Orpen Morris, including 7 from Fawcett, a lithograph and a small collection of papers of the Reverend M C F Morris in connection with his book on Fawcett [DX/21; DP/180].
