
Kevin Joseph McNamara was born in 1934 and was educated at Hull University before taking the post of Head of History at St Mary's Grammar School in 1958 and then Lecturer in Law at Hull College of Commerce 1964-66. In 1966 he became Labour MP for Hull North and has held a seat since. He developed an interest in Catholic education in Great Britain and the archive contains a number of subject files dating from the mid-1960s to the 1990s with correspondence about Catholic schools such as De La Salle College in Manchester. There is a file on the Catholic University of America 1985-7. The rules, reports and membership list of the Catholic Union of Great Britain 1964-5 are held along with a subject file on Catholic groups, copies of the Catholic Herald and files on the Catholic Fund for Overseas Development from the 1980s. Kevin McNamara was opposition spokesperson for Northern Ireland 1987-94 and there are many files on Northern Ireland [DMC].
