Legard, Cecil Henry

Embedded in the papers of the Baines family is an original bundle of papers of the Reverend Cecil Henry Legard (1843-1918), a celebrated steeplechase rider and clergyman. He was educated at Magdalen College, Cambridge, and held a number of livings before becoming rector of Cottesbrooke, Northamptonshire, in 1887. The papers include his licences and certificates, a manuscript poem dated 1882, lists of the Ormond and King's County Hunts 1889, a cheque book, inventories and a dozen letters including one from the Bishop of Peterborough [DDBH/31/16-23].
