
The Reverend Edward William Barnard (1791-1828) was a minor poet and the vicar of South Cave in the East Riding. The collection includes his ordination papers and his appointment as private chaplain to the earl of Stanhope in 1817 [DDBA/13/5-17]. Other religious manuscripts in the Barnard family papers include extracts of parish registers of Holy Trinity, Hull, 1554-1800 and St Mary's, Hull, 1807 [DDBA/13/1-2]; church restoration subscriptions and accounts 1869-75 for Newbald [DDBA(2)/5/1]; the tithe accounts of Charles Edward Gee Barnard 1873-80 [DDBA(2)/15/4]; the annual report, accounts and list of subscribers for the Society for Relief of Widows, Orphans and Distressed Families of the Clergy in the East Riding 1875 [DDBA(2)/20/5] and an abstract of accounts and lists of subscribers for the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge 1875 [DDBA(2)/20/7].
