List of
Quaker Meetings in Yorkshire
This list covers the period from the 1660s to the
mid-20th century. More detailed information about the history and
surviving records of each Meeting is provided by the location register.
A digitised version of James Backhouse's 1773 map covering the Quarterly
Meetings of Lancashire, Westmorland, Cumberland, Northumberland, Durham and
York is available on the website of the Pictures
in Print project.
A number of sources have been used in compiling this
list:
- List of Meeting records and Gazetteer of Quaker
Meetings, both held at Friends House Library
- Lists and maps of Meetings in Yorkshire, 17th-19th
centuries, VI 11, Clifford Street archive, Leeds University Library; the
list dating from the reform of March 1669 is transcribed in Journal
of the Friends Historical Society, 1905, vol. II no. 1 pp.33-36, no. 2
pp.73-76 & no.3 pp.101-103, and an edited version, with a similar list
from 1665, is in W Pearson Thistlethwaite, Yorkshire Quarterly Meeting
1665-1966 (1979), appendix 2
- 'A map of the Monthly and Particular Meetings ...
belonging to the Quarterly Meeting of York in the year 1669', appendix IV,
in JW Rowntree, Essays and addresses (1905)
