Searching
the location register
There are
numerous ways to search the database, depending on the type of research
you are involved with:

To trace
collections relating to a specific town or village, use a
place name search. You can select the place name from a
list. To widen the search, enter a place name in the general
search box.

To trace
collections relating to an individual or family, use a
personal name search. To widen the search, enter a personal
name in the general search box.

To trace
collections relating to a Quaker Meeting or other body, use a
corporate name search. To widen the search, enter a corporate
name in the general search box.

To trace
collections held by a particular archive office or library,
use a repository search. You can select the repository from a
list after choosing a particular town.

To trace
a particular type of collection, such as schools or
businesses, use a collection type search. You can select a
collection type and/or sub-type from a list.

To trace
collections containing specific types of records, use a
general search, eg 'records of sufferings'.

To trace
the papers of women Friends, use a collection type search and
select 'Women' from the sub-type list.

To trace
collections relating to the peace testimony, use a general
search for terms such as 'peace', 'pacifist', 'conscientious
objector', and 'conscription'. You can combine these terms
using boolean searching.
