The production of this website has been funded by an award from the Arts and Humanities Research Councilís Supplementary Pilot Research Dissemination scheme. Its purpose, in addition to demonstrating the sort of work funded by the AHRC, is primarily to introduce the reader, both academic and general, to some aspects of the Middle English sermon as an object of study.
Presented under Sample Sermons is an extract from the printed A Repertorium of Middle English Prose Sermons, published by Brepols in 2007. While keeping the format of the printed volumes in the Sample Sermons provided, which are all taken from Cambridge repositories, a general introduction and some images are also included so as to provide some more contextual information.
Following the Sample Sermons section, the second part of this website is devoted to Sermon Quotations, which are not found in the printed work. This is an ongoing research project that seeks eventually to list all the quotations and so-called quotations, classical, patristic, and other, found in the Middle English sermon.
A Sermon Quotations search facility is also provided so that readers may easily locate quotations in particular texts or by particular authors.
It is hoped that this website will be of use to all those interested in medieval historical, literary, and religious culture.
