THE MARITIME HISTORICAL STUDIES CENTRE

The Maritime Historical Studies Centre (MHSC) is a research unit of the Department of History at the University of Hull.

MHSCIt was established in 1996 to improve knowledge andunderstanding of the maritime dimensions of history.

It endeavours to achieve this aim by conducting research activity, and by making a significant contribution to the History Department's teaching provision. Leading this initiative are two lecturers in maritime history – David J Starkey and Richard Gorski – who hold the only permanent posts dedicated to the subject in the UK university sector.
