The MHSC's research effort is largely undertaken in Blaydes House, a Georgian residence specifically renovated and equipped for the purpose.

Here, research fellows and postgraduate students are engaged in a range of investigations into the various ways in which human societies have used the sea and its resources – the relationship at the heart of maritime history.

Maritime history modules are offered at every level of the University curriculum. This comprehensive provision extends from the Certificate in British Maritime History to a full Master's programme, the MA in Maritime History. Maritime history modules are also offered to students in all three years of the BA course, and those who take the requisite number can opt to register for the 'BA in History with Maritime History', a degree designation that is unique to Hull.
