BLAYDES HOUSE
The MHSC's
research effort is largely undertaken in Blaydes House,
a Georgian residence specifically renovated and equipped
for the purpose. Here, research fellows and postgraduate
students are engaged in a range of investigations into
the various ways in which human societies have used
the sea and its resources – the relationship at the
heart of maritime history.
Architectural evidence would suggest
that the house dates back to the 1730s or 1740s and
boasts a long and interesting history.
Apart
from being a centre of learning and research,
Blaydes House offers excellent seminar and conference
facilities for hire to groups of up to 30 people. It is located in the Old
Town part of Hull, close to the city's Museum Sector
and retains the character of the seafaring age that
made Hull a major port in the UK.
