To the ends of the Earth?

People and Ships linked with Blaydes House have a traceable history that spreads around the globe to the ends of the earth.

Sailors, merchants, whalers, fishermen, explorers, adventurers, travellers, migrants: all sorts of people have voyaged over the oceans from Hull in England. Similarly, many famous and historical vessels, ships, boats, craft, and all manner of seaworthy devices have sailed out of the harbour of Hull.

This site is dedicated to the many people and vessels who embarked upon their voyages from this great port, or were originally from Hull and found renown abroad. Their influence and efforts have had an impact across the globe.

Thanks are due especially to Peter Chapman (East Yorkshire Family History Society), Derek Ricketts, Alan Hopper and Skipper Ken Knox as well as the staff of the Hull City Archives, the National Archives and also the Hull Local Studies Library for their invaluable help and assistance.

But as for his craft, to reckon well his tide
His currents and the dangerous watersides
His harbours and his moon, his pilotage
There was none such from Hull to far Carthage
