ADVANCED IMAGING
The advanced imaging laboratory houses sophisticated equipment that allows MediCET to reconstruct physical samples in high detail. Internal as well as external surfaces can be visualised, meaning that structures such as bone or internal circuitry can be assessed non-destructively.
MediCET has a MicroCT scanner which can be used as a real time digital x-ray system providing high quality 2D images without compromising its ability to produce 3D data sets of a wide variety of samples, including metals, polymers and bone. The MicroCT system has the capability of scanning to resolutions of up to 5 microns, allowing for example the 3D anatomy of trabecular bone to be visualised in high detail. These 3D images can be exported and analysed using tools such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA), which allows the strength of the scanned structure to be approximated.
