MathSkills Newsletter

No. 1

June/July 1996

This Newsletter is the first of a regular series which will be made available to all Departments of Mathematical Sciences at UK universities, to employers' organisations and employers of mathematicians in industry and commerce, to learned and professional societies and to all users of mathematics who express an interest.

Comments on and potential contributions to our Webpages are most welcome: send an email to the Network Assistant, Dr Neil Gordon (n.a.gordon@maths.hull.ac.uk) or write to him at:

School of Mathematics, University of Hull, Hull, HU6 7RX (fax: 01482-466218).

Future editions of this Newsletter will be edited from Warwick by Adrian Simpson (email: a.p.simpson@warwick.ac.uk) and placed on the MathSkills Webpages. However, if you wish to continue to receive hard copy, please email, fax or write to the above address, and we will place you on our mailing list. Contributions to the Newsletter should be sent to Adrian at:

Institute of Education, University of Warwick, Coventry, CV4 7AL

Heads of University Departments of Mathematical Sciences, to whom this initial issue is primarily addressed, are urged to make this Newsletter available to interested staff and to encourage them to become involved in MathSkills, and help to shape its development in reflecting on and enhancing the experience of mathematics students.

We hope that you will find MathSkills material of use to you in your work.

Ekkehard Kopp, Project Director, School of Mathematics, University of Hull. (email: p.e.kopp@maths.hull.ac.uk)
