October 2004 -
Kingston Chemicals began work as lead partner along with Prof.
John Goodby's research group on a 3 year collaborative project
- Ferroelectric and nematic liquid crystals for displays
(FNLCD). It is a DTI funded LINK scheme and comes
under the banner of The Information Storage and Displays (ISD)
programme.
The
aim of the project is to develop commercial FLC mixtures for the expanding
market which is now employing ferroelectric liquid crystal technology:
e.g. micro-displays, projection devices and photonics applications.
Mixture development will be achieved by exploiting our knowledge and
expertise acquired over nearly twenty years' research into FLC material
design and also through the synthesis of novel materials to improve
performance of the surface stabilised FLC devices. The programme also
plans to develop new negative dielectric nematic materials for the lucrative
market in vertically aligned nematics (VAN). More detailed information
can be found at the ISD
showcase website
