Using the HMAP Data Store

The Data Store contains two types of downloadable dataset. While the Processed HMAP Datasets have been edited by Michaela Barnard and John Nicholls to accord with the HMAP/OBIS schema, the Data Files (in process) comprise datasets that have been submitted by researchers but have yet to be processed. Disaggregated data are extracted, processed and formulated subsets of the HMAP datasets whcih are available for GIS mapping, charting, data manipulation, and statistical review.

All datasets have Supporting Documentation which includes information on the objectives of the data collection effort, the provenance of the historical source material from which the data are derived, the structure of the dataset, and the outputs that have been generated. These documents have been drafted by the data providers and edited by Michaela Barnard, John Nicholls and David Starkey.

New HMAP Datasets are being added regularly with a current total of 27 downloadable and useable datasets.

Disaggregated Data
Click here to Search the HMAP Database

The table below comprises of disaggregated, extrapolated sub-datasets derived entirely from HMAP datasets. The accompanying HMAP base file (Schema) contains the common data elements that enable reduced data volumes. Please refer to these files for information about relevant citations, common elements and required fields.

In technical terms, the files below are normalised elements of a relational database of the HMAP flat file schema. These data are specifically arranged in Spatial terms in order to highlight and sort by the geographic (location) indictor(s) as available per dataset. This comprehensive disaggregation includes over a quarter of a million records.

NOTE: Some of the downloadable files listed here are zipped. See the Data Tools below to download the "7-ZIP" utility.
