Welcome!
Geography has been taught at Hull since the 1920s, located in the beautiful listed Cohen Building, offering a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. We are now widely recognised as one of the leading UK centres for excellence in geographical teaching and research, reflected in a series of high scores in the National Student Satisfaction Survey and the Research Assessment Exercise.
With more than 20 academic teaching staff, over 300 undergraduates, and a vibrant postgraduate community of masters and PhD students, we are a medium sized department with a strong reputation for providing a friendly and supportive environment in which to study, with fieldwork an integral part of our teaching philosophy.
We benefit from strong engagement with local employers and schools and enjoy an excellent record for graduate employment.
The Hull campus provides a very pleasant environment, recently extended and major investments undertaken. On campus are a range of sports facilities and a vibrant Students Union, which regularly wins national awards.
Hull and its surrounding region offer an amazing set of opportunities for geographical study, from the Yorkshire coast and moors, to the major regeneration initiatives around the city.
Professor Graham Haughton, Head of Department

Memories of Hull
"The project looks at everyday memories in the everyday spaces of modern Hull - the things that Hull
residents of different ages remember about their daily lives and how these sorts of memories are attached
to different parts of the modern-day city." The project is run by Tegwen Roberts one of our PhD students.
