Engineering Design Analysis Centre (EDAC)
- Finite Element Analysis
Using ANSYS DesignModeler to seamlessly transfer and prepare your Computer Aided Design (CAD) models (including parameters) from their native systems so that they can be analysed with the ANSYS Finite Element Analysis (FEA) solvers. DesignModeler can read 2D and 3D model data from all major CAD vendors or if no CAD models of your product exist, we can create them from 2D drawings/sketches using ANSYS DesignModeler or Solidworks.
Following preparation of your CAD models we can undertake the following finite element analyses to ensure the structural integrity of your designs:
- Static linear/non-linear analysis
- Dynamic analysis
- Linear/non-linear buckling
- Steady state thermal analysis
- Convection analysis
- Conduction analysis
To reduce the uncertainty in the response of theoretical structural models, we can also assist in the validation and fine tuning of theoretical models with real world structural tests.
- Fatigue and Fracture Analysis
The Engineering Innovation Institute can also carry out:
- high cycle fatigue analysis using the stress life (SN) approach
- low cycle fatigue analysis using the strain life (εN) approach
- damage tolerance/crack growth analysis
- Structural Health Monitoring consultancy
- development of bespoke fatigue/fracture software
- Design Optimisation
The ability to generate high performance structures with least weight is a primary driver in many industries. - Design for Manufacture and Assembly
- Rapid Manufacturing/Mass Customisation
MediCET
A Medical Engineering consultancy providing a link between the University's Medical Engineering R&D activities and the medical industry.
MediCET work with organisations in the following ways:
- Design and development using the latest 3D CAD tools and FEA software.
- Test existing components under tension, compression and cyclic loading, or determine material properties using Nanoindentation and Dynamic Mechanical Analysis.
- MicroCT Scan samples to build up 3D models enabling detailed non-destructive analysis to be performed.
- Educate and Train staff in Medical Engineering/Technology with courses specifically tailored to your organisation.
