TELL Formative Evaluation Report

This 63-page report covers the evaluation planning processes undertaken by the TELL Consortium and the implementation of the formative stage. The first three sections deal with the planning and implementation processes. The fourth section of the report focuses on the data arising from the formative evaluation of specific items of TELL software. The fifth section presents the findings by discussing a range of issues related to pedagogical design which arise within a number of the packages. The sixth section presents the main findings in terms of the language learning issues, and the concluding section lists the main issues highlighted by the report. All the evaluation tools prepared by the evaluator are appended to the report.

TELL Summative Evaluation Report

The Summative Evaluation stage took place during the latter half of 1997 and early 1998. The aim was to evaluate some of the TELL packages in use, focusing on the context within which they were being used, their efficiency and effectiveness as language learning tools and the 'costs' of their implementation in terms of preparation time by both staff and students.
The Summative Evaluation Report is 79 pages in total. The main report comprises the first 39 pages, and covers 9 Case Studies based on Encounters, GramEx and TransIt-TIGER programs in various languages. The evaluation tools and case study data summaries make up the appendices.

Results of the Summative Evaluation were presented at the TELL Consortium Seminar Integration of TELL materials into language learning programmes in October 1998.
