General Information on Transport

transportThe difficulties faced by both visitors and residents in travelling within the coastal zone (and indeed to and from it) were a fairly consistent theme during the consultation process. Generally comments can be divided into two areas - those relating to improvements needed in public transport provision (whether this be rail or the bus network) and those relating to improvements needed in the road network. The main routes to Bridlington are the A165 from Hull and A614 from Howden, where the nearest link with the motorway system is found. Within the coastal zone, however, the main north-south route to Withernsea through Hornsea is the B1242. Journey times along this stretch are fairly long and in peak times of year traffic congestion can be perceived as a problem (ICZM, 2002).

However, public transport offers an alternative method of getting to the coast, with a concerted effort by local authorities and charity bodies to promote sustainable forms of transport.
