General Information on Planning

ICZM planThe East Riding of Yorkshire coastal area is covered by the Local Plans of two former Borough Councils - East Yorkshire and Holderness. Work on the East Riding of Yorkshire Council Local Plan, including the whole coast, commenced in 2002. The general objectives in relation to planning in the coastal zone are to recognise the long term nature and importance of physical processes affecting the coastline and their significance to the coastal cell. There is a need to ensure that essential development is adequately sited to be protected from anticipated rates of coastal erosion. The character of the landscape should be safeguarded and nature conservation interests protected (ICZM, 2002).
