Buried Cliffs
Between 116,000 and 128,000 years ago, prior to the deposition
of the pleistocene tills of Holderness, the Yorkshire coast ran
westwards of the current coastline running on a curving line running
just to the west of Driffield, Beverley and Cottingham. Traces of
the former coastal cliff can be traced at Sewerby, just to the north-east
of Bridlington. Link

Lost Villages
Hidden Holderness
The Hidden Holderness group is a locally based community group from the Withernsea and South East Holderness Regeneration areas. The group activity focuses around the parishes of Easington, Hollym, Holmpton, Halsham, Rimswell, Roos, Welwick, Sunk Island, East Garton, Partrington and Ottringham. The group has researched and published a Lost Village Trail - a guide to the lost villages of the Holderness coast. Hidden Holderness is currently working on a new Shipwreck trail to achieve greater local understanding of these features of local heritage. Link to Local Heritage Initiative
