Biological Records Centre
(BRC)
Biological Records Centre (BRC) is the national custodian of data
on the distribution of wildlife in the British Isles. Link
to Biological Records Centre.
Centre for Ecology and Hydrology
(CEH)
The Centre for Ecology and Hydrology is custodian to large array of nationally and internationally important hydrological, terrestrial and freshwater environmental data. Some of the data is held by individual scientists and some as databases by specialist data management teams or data centres in CEH. Many are live databases which are continually managed and extended by the addition of more data, and some form archives which are created after research programmes and projects have been completed. Link to CEH.
English Nature
English Nature is the statutory service responsible for the protection of England's wildlife. Reports, publications, maps and data are posted on the website. Link to English Nature.
English Nature - GIS information
The Geographical IS Digital Boundary Datasets held by English Nature
are now becoming available for downloading via the Internet. The
data is suitable for use in a Geographic Information System (GIS).
Other digital data, such as background mapping, is not included.

Environment Agency
The Environment Agency is the leading body for protecting and improving the environment in England and Wales. The Agency has an important role in conservation and ecology and helps to create an environment where wildlife can thrive, especially along rivers and in wetlands. They have statutory responsibilities for UK biodiversity and help to achieve its aims by protecting and enhancing wildlife.

Hull Natural History Society
A website developed by The Hull Natural History Society in conjunction with the University of Hull which provides an online edition of The Plants of Hull: a Millennium Atlas. Link to Plants of Hull.
Humber Bibliography
In partnership with English Nature, the Institute of Estuarine & Coastal Studies (IECS) based at the University of Hull have developed the 'Humber Bibliography' as a comprehensive database of references relating to the physical and biological characteristics and features of the estuary, as well as land use in and around the estuary, including the tidal rivers and coast from Skegness to Scarborough. The bibliography (currently containing over 3,000 references including grey literature) can be searched using a variety of fields including author, date, title and keywords, and contains full reference details. Link to the Humber Bibliography.
Institute of Estuarine &
Coastal Studies (IECS)
The Institute of Estuarine and Coastal Studies (IECS) is a multi-disciplinary research and consultancy organisation set up to utilise the facilities and expertise in coastal science and management within the University of Hull. IECS covers a wide range of specialisms within the coastal environment ranging from the biological and physical environments (topography, vegetation, ornithology, benthic and pelagic fauna) to coastal planning, environmental quality, marine law and environmental impact assessment. Some publications and reports are provided on this website. Link to IECS.
Joint Nature Conservation Committee
(JNCC)
The JNCC provides a wide range of publications which can be accessed
through JNCC and the JNCC's distributor. Link
to publications.
MAGIC
MAGIC - Multi-Agency Geographic Information for the Countryside.
This is a one-stop shop for rural and countryside information from
the partner organisations, bringing together definitive rural designation
boundaries and information about rural land-based schemes into one
place for the first time. Link
to MAGIC.
MarLIN
MarLIN is an initiative of the Marine Biological Association of the UK in collaboration with major holders and users of marine biological data. It provides a comprehensive source of information about marine habitats, communities and species around Britain and Ireland. From this home page, data, reports and information can be accessed and downloaded. Link to MarLIN.
North and East Yorkshire Ecological
Data Centre
North and East Yorkshire Ecological Data Centre hold local data and can be contacted at the following address:

UK Biodiversity Action Group
The site provides supporting information for the United Kingdom's action for biodiversity. It provides information on the production and status of actions for species, habitats and Local and national area plans. Link to UK Biodiversity Action Plan.
UK Marine SAC Reports
UK Marine SAC project reports. These studies have been undertaken
to collate existing knowledge on the ecological requirements and
sensitivity of nine marine features. These features are each important
ecological or biodiversity components for one or more of the Habitat
Directive interest features. The reports have been produced by appropriate
specialists in the area and are aimed at practitioners who are responsible
for managing and monitoring these features. They are not specific
to the East Riding of Yorkshire but provide detailed information
on marine habitats and species found in the area. Link
to UK marine SAC reports.
World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF)
WWF website supplies information regarding marine and coastal ecosystems and provides links to documents which can be downloaded. Link to WWF.
