Management
plans are a tool which allow conservation issues to be addressed,
managed and give direction for the management and sustainability
of conservation areas. Their purpose is to implement general policies
and establish objectives for the integrated management of natural
and historic resources. Conservation issues are now integrated into
provision for coastal and flood defence and general planning.
Find out more information about management plans relating to nature
conservation under the headings below.

Biodiversity Action Plans
(BAPs)
Three types of action plan have been developed which set priorities for nationally important and locally important habitats and wildlife. These include Species Action Plans (SAPs), Habitat Action Plans (HAPs) and Local Biodiversity Action Plans (BAPs).
UK BAP
The UK Biodiversity Action Plan website allows access to national
action plans for individual species (SAPs) and habitats (HAPs).

East Riding BAP
The Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP) for the East Riding of Yorkshire
has been developed by a partnership between the Council, statutory
bodies, e.g, English Nature and local nature conservation groups
including the South Holderness Countryside Society. Link

Yorkshire and Humber Biodiversity Forum
The Yorkshire and Humber Biodiversity Forum website provides a summary of the Biodiversity Audit of Yorkshire and the Humber. This gives a broad overview of local key and priority habitats and species, and covers biodiversity action plans in the area. Link to Biodiversity Forum.
Site Management Plans
Site management plans exist for the Flamborough Head Heritage Coast and Spurn Head. These documents set out a broad strategy to guide the work of those organisations involved in the management of these areas. The management plans look at the objectives and priorities for sustainable development and lays out a framework for how issues can be addressed and opportunities for action taken. It is essential this is done in an integrated manner and that social, economic and environmental factors are all taken into account. Although the actions are specific for these two areas, they are both consistent with the wider East Riding Integrated Coastal Zone Management Plan.
More information on the Flamborough Head Heritage Coast can be found under the Parish of Flamborough under Nature Conservation. The Management Strategy can be downloaded here. Link to Flamborough Draft Management Strategy.
More information on the Spurn Heritage Coast can be found under the Parish of Easington under Nature Conservation. The Management Strategy can be accessed here. Link to Spurn Draft Management Strategy.
Shoreline Management Plans
(SMPs)
Shoreline Management Plans (SMPs) are non-statutory documents aimed at producing sustainable policies for the coastal defence of the shorelines around the UK. SMPs are prepared to take into account natural coastal processes and issues relating to the environment and human needs.
Humber Estuary Coastal Advisory Group Shoreline Management Plans (SMPs)
The SMP addressing the section of coastline between Flamborough Head to Donna Nook was produced by Posford Haskoning (formerly Posford Duvivier) for HECAG and splits this section of coastline into eighteen management units. Integrated Coastal Zone
Management (ICZM) plans
East Riding of Yorkshire Council Integrated Coastal Zone Management Plan (ICZM) is a document laying out a framework to address the many issues relating to the coastal zone. It brings together decision makers to allow social, economic and environmental issues to be addressed in an integrated and sustainable manner for the long term management of the coast.
