Within
the East Riding coastal zone, the main industrial base is restricted
to southern Holderness and the Bridlington area. The gas terminals
at Easington and Dimlington are owned by BP Amoco and British Gas
(BP), and provide jobs for over 10% of the workforce of southern
Holderness. In addition, the treatment and processing facilities
at these sites supply up to 25% of Britain's gas.
Within the region, Associated British Ports (ABP) owns and manages the ports of Grimsby, Immingham, Hull and Goole, and operates a Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) centre at Spurn Point which coordinates vessel traffic movement in the Humber estuary.
BP Chemicals Ltd has a site at Saltend, Hull which is home to one of BP's main global research and technology centres and is the base for BP's global marine emergency response centre. More than 30 different petrochemical products are manufactured at this particular plant including acetic acid, oxygenated solvents, phthalic anhydride and phthalate esters (plasticisers).
Additionally, BAE Systems Ltd. (formerly British Aerospace) has a military aircraft manufacturing site at Brough which dates back to 1916.
