Physiotherapy & Functional Morphology
Dr Klaber Moffett leads an internationally-recognised research group focused on ameliorating back and neck pain through exercise, manipulation and cognitive-behavioural approaches. Back pain and neck pain are leading causes of absence from work in the UK, and the work in Hull is pioneering the application of novel approaches to address these problems. Dr Klaber Moffett works closely with NHS physiotherapists, being involved with training and practice.
There are also strong collaborative links, through a seminar series and jointly-supervised graduate students, with colleagues in the Anthropology and Biomedical Engineering groups. As part of the HYMS functional morphology and evolution group, a number of new appointments have been made. Dr Cobb and Dr Elton provide an exciting new perspective on spinal studies from an anthropomorphic perspective. The HYMS research group (Professor O’Higgins, University of York) of which they are members has been established with more than £3M funding support from the Leverhulme Trust, EU, and BBSRC.
In collaboration with the visualisation and modelling biomedical engineering group, (Dr Fagan, Professor Langton and Professor Phillips) they have become a world-leading group in visualisation and modelling of bone structure and growth in normal and diseased states. Furthermore, with the recent appointment of Dr Asghar, there are a number of additional opportunities to link the fundamental studies of neurophysiology with patient-centred, physiotherapy regimes.
