Hypertext Translations

This is the first in what is to be a series of translations on our web site. We have here Tom Taylor's Ticket-of-Leave Man and its French source, Le Retour de Melun by Édouard-Louis-Alexandre Brisebarre and Eugène Nus. In each text you will find links, numbered by act, scene and reference in the source text, e.g. '1.1.1' for the first reference in Act 1 scene 1. Click on this and it will take you to a matching point in the other text. With certain versions of Netscape Navigator, you may find it necessary to scroll a little up the page, as the link may be hidden under the title frame.

Comparison of Ticket-of-Leave Man and Le Retour de Melun
(You will need a frames-compatible browser for this, i.e. Netscape Navigator 3.0, Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 or later version)

Le Retour de Melun
(No frames, full-screen version. You may prefer this for close study of the text. The links still work! )

Ticket-of-Leave Man
(No frames, full-screen version)

The texts scanned were that in Drames de la vie , published by Bourdilliat et Cie in 1860, and the edition published by Thomas Hailes Lacy in 1863. We understand that these are out of copyright, but would wish to be informed if that were not the case.
