Undergraduate study
Talks and workshops
Archives staff are available to give talks and host workshops for undergraduates. These can be held at Hull History Centre or on campus. Sessions can be tailored to individual modules or focus more generally on using archives for dissertation research. Your tutor will let you know of any arrangements made for your module group.
Since 2004/5, sessions have been held for the following modules to prepare students for dissertation research:
- The whore's complaint: sex, lies and politics 1650-1950 (History special subject 20416)
- War and political crisis in India 1939-47 (History special subject 20404)
- From Beveridge to Benetton: a socio-political analysis of post war Britain (History special subject 20626)
- Seafaring in war and peace (History special subject 20310)
- The First World War (History special subject 20195)
Archives can also be included in reading lists, used in teaching or for coursework assignments. Some modules already incorporate archives in this way. Since 2006/7, sessions were held for the following modules to highlight primary sources for assessed essays and possible dissertation topics:
- Autobiography (English third year module 14094)
- The First World War in literature (English second year module 14090)
- Between the Acts: literature in the Thirties (English second year module 14132)
- Shipowning and seafaring 1830-1914: the case of Hull (History special subject 20403)
- English department modules on Contemporary poetry (14043) and Philip Larkin (14089) feature books from special collections which can be be studied at Hull History Centre.
