Phoenix

This poetry magazine was edited by Harry Chambers and published from his home in Stockport and elsewhere in 13 issues between 1967 and 1975.  Issue 11/12 was a special number on Philip Larkin.  The archive consists of material relating to issues 5, 8, 9, 10, 11/12 and 13; contributors included Seamus Heaney, Douglas Dunn and Fleur Adcock.  There are also typescripts of items from the Peterloo poets series, material relating to the Steven Zivadin Poetry Prize (1975) and the poetry reading ‘A celebration for Philip Larkin’ at the Mermaid Theatre in 1975 and letters to Harry Chambers from Daniel Abse, Alan Brownjohn, Dougas Dunn, Gavin Ewart, Roy Fuller, Seamus Heaney, Adrian Mitchell, Blake Morrison, Peter Porter, Edward Lucie-Smith, Anthony Thwaite, Philip Larkin, and many others between 1960 and 1976 [DP/162].  The Library additionally holds issues 1 and 3-11/12 of Phoenix.
