Whitaker family, of Arnold
Thomas Whitaker lived in Worksop. Marriage to his second wife, Mary Dawson, enabled him to buy an estate in Arnold. His son, also Thomas Whitaker, served in the Navy during the Napoleonic Wars became master of the sloop 'Merlin'. He was father to Robert Whitaker (1831-1880) some of whose papers are also in the collection. Robert Whitaker was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge, before becoming rector of Scorborough and Leconfield. This small family collection includes mortgages, marriage settlements and the naval certificates and commissions of Thomas Whitaker 1803-1815. [DDCV/219]
