John Lockwood, of Beverley

John Lockwood (d.1827) was a solicitor in Beverley who built Walkington Hall in 1802 and Walkington Lodge in Northgate in 1803. He married Sarah Dickens and had six children. He acted as land steward and solicitor for wealthy landowners such as the Earl of Londesborough and the Bishops of Peterborough and Durham and his name crops up throughout the collections of estate papers. There is also a small, integral collection of his personal estate papers for Beverley including four farm account books with rentals for farms in Beverley Parks, Walkington and Bishop Burton (1817-1820, 1824-1825).
