Dealtry family, of Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire

The family of William Dealtry (circa 1746-1834) had a longstanding connection with the church. His grandfather was vicar of Filey and rector at Skirpenbeck and his uncle was vicar of Garton-on-the-Wolds. William Dealtry was admitted as a pensioner at Jesus College, Cambridge, in 1764 and was a fellow of the college until he became rector at Skirpenbeck in 1775. He was a pluralist with church livings in three counties - in 1783 he became rector of Bishop Wilton, and in 1785 rector of Barnby and prebend of Southwell, and in 1786 he became rector of Hatcliffe in Lincolnshire and Wigginton in Yorkshire. He married Henrietta Southeron and then Elizabeth Francis Barber, by whom he had a son, Francis William Dealtry (circa 1779-1822), who was also a pensioner at Jesus College, before becoming rector of Ingoldmells and then Upper Helmsley. William Dealtry left his estates to Frank and Peregrine Southeron. The 130 items in this collection comprise papers on William Dealtry's title to ecclesiastical property at Norwell, Southwell, Norwell Woodhouse, Willoughby, Middlethorpe and Carlton on Trent, all in Nottinghamshire, and at Wigginton, Tollerton, York and Youlton in Yorkshire. There are also a few family wills and letters. [DDCV/210; DDBH/26/1, 4]
